EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE (EFT)

Tapping, also known as EFT, is a holistic healing technique that can effectively resolve a wide range of physical and emotional issues as well as helping trauma survivors to feel what they feel and know what they know, without becoming overwhelmed. EFT is based on the combined principles of ancient Chinese acupressure and modern psychology. The body is equipped with an energy system that travels along pathways known as meridians (see acupuncture below). Tapping on the meridian endpoints to stimulate this system whilst verbally or mentally addressing the root causes of distress helps the areas of blocked energy to release and flow naturally.

The basic tapping technique requires you to focus on a negative sensation or emotion (a fear, a worry, a bad memory, an unresolved problem or pain). While maintaining your mental focus on this issue, you use your fingertips to tap 5-7 times on each of the 9 specific meridian points of the body. Tapping on these meridian points in sequence while concentrating on the negative sensations or emotions engages both the emotional brain and the body’s energy system, encouraging a sense of safety and resolution.
