ACUPUNCTURE

In traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is linked to the belief that disease is caused by disruptions to the flow of energy, or qi, in the body. Acupuncture stimulates points on or under the skin called acupuncture points or acupressure points, releasing this qi. The qi then travels through channels called meridians leading to changes in muscle tone, pain sensation, immune function and hormonal levels. As well as fine needles, acupuncture includes the use of other techniques such as moxibustion and cupping.

A wide variety of physical conditions can be treated with acupuncture, such as painful and musculoskeletal disorders; neurological disorders; menstrual, gynaecological and obstetric disorders; digestive disorders; circulatory and urinary diseases. However, it can also be highly effective for emotional and psychological problems such as anxiety, panic attacks, depression, insomnia and trauma.
